Carolina Friends School -- Photo Gallery

Carolina Friends School (CFS) is a community of learners, made up of 480 students ages 3 to 18, and over 80 staff, as well as family members, board members, alumni, alum parents, grandparents, former staff, and friends of the school.

Founded in 1962 by members of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), at least two-thirds of the CFS Board of Directors are members of the Durham and Chapel Hill Friends Meetings. CFS was one of the first schools in the South to pursue a policy and practice of racial integration.

A main campus of 76 acres is situated in the woods with a stream and nature trails, and located fifteen minutes from Durham, Chapel Hill, and Hillsborough. Fourteen classroom buildings, including libraries, science and computer laboratories, art and music studios, a performing arts center, and a gymnasium, plus playgrounds and baseball and soccer fields, make up the campus.

We have three Early Schools for 3- to 6-year-olds – one on the main campus, one in Durham near Duke University, and one in Chapel Hill near UNC.

In recent years, 95% of CFS graduates have gone on to college, with an excellent acceptance rate at the state’s most selective public university and outstanding offers for scholarships and grants. The United States Office of Education has recognized the CFS Upper School as an “Exemplary Private Secondary School.”
